About This Building

Wright's winter home and studio in the Sonoran Desert.

Taliesin West was Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home, studio, and architectural campus in the desert foothills of the McDowell Mountains. Built from desert masonry — rough stones set in concrete — the complex blends seamlessly with its arid surroundings. Today it serves as the headquarters of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and School of Architecture. The canvas roof panels that Wright originally used have been replaced with translucent fiberglass, but the spirit of the original remains.
