About This Building
The Edward E. Boynton House (1908) is one of Wright's finest Prairie houses outside of the Chicago area — a mature, fully resolved work at 16 East Boulevard in Rochester, New York. Boynton was a widower raising a daughter, and Wright designed the house with a practical openness that anticipates the Usonian concept: the living and dining spaces flow together, the kitchen is integrated rather than hidden, and the whole composition is organized around the hearth. The house is notable for its exceptional art-glass windows and its remarkably intact interior. Rick McNees photographed the building extensively for the Wright-Site archive. It is a private residence.
