About This Building
The William H. Winslow House was Frank Lloyd Wright's first independent commission after leaving Adler & Sullivan, and it announced his arrival as a major architect. The house's symmetrical facade, with its broad overhanging eaves, Roman brick base, and ornamental frieze, already shows the Prairie vocabulary taking shape. Wright and Winslow also collaborated on a private press in the stable, producing limited-edition books together.
