Isabel Roberts House

River Forest, IllinoisCompleted 1908

About This Building

A cruciform Prairie house designed for Wright's own bookkeeper.

The Isabel Roberts House was designed for Wright's bookkeeper and office manager, Isabel Roberts, and represents the Prairie Style at its most refined. The cruciform plan, with its central fireplace core and radiating wings, became a template for many subsequent Wright houses. The house was later remodeled by Wright himself in 1955, adding a second story and updating the interior.
