About This Building

The pinnacle of Prairie Style — sweeping horizontal lines and cantilevered roofs.

The Robie House is considered the finest example of Prairie Style architecture. Its dramatically cantilevered roof, long horizontal lines, and open floor plan were revolutionary for their time. Located in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood near the University of Chicago, the house influenced generations of architects and remains one of the most studied buildings in the world. The AIA named it one of the most important buildings of the 20th century.
