About This Building
La Miniatura was the first of Wright's four Los Angeles textile block houses, built for Alice Millard in a ravine in Pasadena. Wright described the textile block system as "knitting" — interlocking patterned concrete blocks that could be assembled by unskilled labor. The house sits in a lush garden setting beside a small pool, and Wright considered it one of his finest works despite its modest size.
