Arthur B. Heurtley House

Oak Park, IllinoisCompleted 1902

About This Building

A bold early Prairie house with a Roman brick base and sweeping horizontal bands.

The Arthur B. Heurtley House is one of the finest early Prairie houses, notable for its Roman brick banding, low-pitched hipped roof, and the way the entrance is tucked beneath an arched opening on the side — a characteristic Wright move that compresses the approach before releasing visitors into the generous living spaces above. The house is a private residence but is visible from the street on Forest Avenue in Oak Park.
