Fallingwater

Mill Run, PennsylvaniaCompleted 1935

About This Building

Wright's masterpiece — a house built over a waterfall.

Fallingwater is widely considered Frank Lloyd Wright's greatest work. Commissioned by the Kaufmann family as a weekend retreat, the house is built directly over a waterfall on Bear Run in the Mill Run section of Stewart Township. The cantilevered terraces seem to float over the rushing water below, creating one of the most photographed buildings in the world. The AIA named it the "Building of the Century" in 1991.
