About This Building

A translucent mountain of light — Wright's only synagogue.

Beth Sholom Synagogue was the only synagogue Frank Lloyd Wright ever designed. The building's translucent fiberglass and glass roof creates the effect of a glowing mountain of light at night. Wright described it as "a traveling Mount Sinai." The sanctuary seats 1,000 and the building remains an active congregation. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2007.
